Cheryl Smith came to
Wesley Huntsville in June of 2011, having served in the Houston area for 12
years prior.Before becoming a United
Methodist minister, she had full careers both in teaching and in the practice
of psychotherapy. She finds that both of
those areas of experience serve her well in the ministry to God’s people.
Cheryl is married to The Rev. Dr. Stephen Spidell
who is, himself, an ordained Presbyterian (USA) pastor. He serves as the Executive Director of
Presbyterian Outreach to Patients in the Houston Medical Center and in outlying
hospitals.Cheryl and her husband love
to collaborate in teaching classes and leading workshops, and have some very
interesting theological discussions over morning coffee.
Cheryl is the mother of 3 adultchildren, Colly, mother of the 4
grandchildren, Cayce, currently working in NYC, and Robin, a student at
Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX.Also holding a privileged position in the family is Rascal, a Lhasa Apso
who serves as “Chief of Ranch Security” at the Parsonage.
Cheryl has a passion for partnering with people to
bring in the Reign of God—right here, right now. This leads her to sometimes be overextended,
but never short of things to do.Whether
it is preaching or missions or teaching or healing work, she gets up every
morning glad to get to live out her calling in the piney woods of
Huntsville.
